Enot Tsukim Nature Reserve (Ein Feshka) for swimming, picnicking and nature stroll
Enot Tsukim/Ein Feshkha is delightful place for bathing, picnicking and a nature stroll. It is the lowest nature reserve on earth. The cliffs of the Judean Desert provide a spectacular backdrop to your activities here. The Palm Pool for adult swimming is open only on certain days of the week but the kids’ wading pools are available all year long.

​Directions and parking: Enter "Enot Tsukim Nature Reserve" into Waze. The park is about an 8-minute drive from Qumran and the two constitute a nice combination to visit.
Admission: This is a park of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority. The park is open in the summer, April through to September, from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., and from October through March from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. On Friday and holiday eves closing is 1 hour earlier. Admission is 40 nis for adults, 25 nis for children, 34 nis for students and 23 nis for seniors. Their phone number is 02-994 2355. At popular times you may wish to pre-book via their website. Security: This park is located outside the Green Line and in area C. The roads to and around the Dead Sea are well travelled and safe. The pools are popular for Israelis and Palestinians, and there is peaceful ignoring.
Public transport: Enter “Einot Tsukim” into Moovit. This bus can also be used for the short journey between Qumran and Enot Tsukim from the Kibbutz Kalia Junction.

Shortly after entering the nature reserve, park at the parking lot on the left for the visitor center. Drinks are available for sale. From here you can arrange to see the two movies in a new nearby building. The first movie is about the biological aspects of the Dead Sea and its environs. The second is about animal life at night in this area. You will need to request to see the movies in English. Be aware that there are movies, as you might not be told about them at the ticket office.
The park has a number of fresh water pools. The pools have concrete bottoms and no special footwear is needed.

The Palm (Tamar) Pool is good for adult swimming and has a deep and shallower section. This is the only pool suitable for adult swimming There is a chair device for lowering the disabled into the water. It is only open Friday and Saturday from March to November from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on Saturday. Otherwise during the winter from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on Friday and 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Saturday. It is open every day of the week during July and August, except for Wednesday when it closed for cleaning.
There are shaded picnic benches close to the pool. Restrooms and changing facilities are close by. There is also a nearby shallow pool for children.

If you come with children you may wish to use the shallow pools closer to the Dead Sea. They are a significant walk from the visitor center, so continue driving along the central road until you come to another parking area. There are two shallow pools here, one of which is partially shaded, and plenty of shaded picnic benches. There may be a food caravan for drinks and snacks. There is a nearby changing area with restrooms.

Do take a nature walk on the paths. There is no brochure, although there is a QR code. You can also take a photo of the map in the Visitor Center. From the visitor center, head south on a path until you come to a wire fence. Turn left and continue by the fence until you come to the end. From here there is a path, on the left that is partly wooden through the reeds to the children’s pools.

There may be free tours of the Hidden Reserve in Hebrew from June to September on Fridays (10.00 AM and noon) and Saturdays (10.00 AM, noon and 2.00 PM) that last about 1 hour. The area covered is an extensive part of the reserve otherwise closed to the public. A tour with no additional charge is also available in English on Fridays and Saturdays, but needs to be arranged in advance, as it will only take place if there is sufficient demand.
